STATE CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE 4-27-2017
The negotiating team has received a number of questions recently that have focused on two areas:
1. 1. What are the details of the proposals on the table?
2. 2. Why aren’t we picketing and rallying against the Governor?
Our team has discussed these very questions a number of times and we really wanted to get you a direct answer, so here goes.
The reason we aren’t giving details on the proposals is that we don’t want to hurt our efforts in getting the best possible contract for you. Basically, the only reason we haven’t given you specifics at this time is we don’t want to hurt our negotiating efforts or tip our hand to management. Does this mean you will never hear a more detailed summary? Absolutely not. When we reach a tentative agreement, your team will be out in the field explaining it; what we wanted, what the state’s proposals were and what was finally negotiated. You will have detailed information in The Work Force as well.
The second most asked question has been why we haven’t brought buses to Albany to yell at the Governor. We believe we are getting closer to a possible agreement and collectively we believe picketing the Governor, at this point, would be counterproductive to getting a contract. The goal is, and always has been, to get the best possible agreement. If the Governor continues to put us off, CSEA may have to reevaluate that position. If and when that happens, we will mobilize. If it comes to that, we will need all of your support. There is nothing worse than a rally where there is not enough backing to make a positive impact.
Thank you again for your patience, and for standing strong with us.
