CSEA Retirees are PEOPLE strong
CSEA retirees have strong PEOPLE power.
Our union was recently recognized as the top local in AFSCME’s Retiree Division for our PEOPLE recruitment.
Our participation in the PEOPLE program is an important tool in helping us face challenges from anti-labor groups funded by wealthy CEOs, as well as anti-labor elected leaders who want to gut our pensions, Social Security and Medicare.
“Our retirees know it’s important to fight for everything we have,” CSEA President Danny Donohue said. “Through the PEOPLE program, we can not only have a voice in keeping our union strong and preserving our retirement security, but help elect those who stand with us.”
At the recent Retiree Delegates Meeting, the following activists and locals were honored for their PEOPLE activism:
• Rutha Bush of Suffolk
Retirees Local 920 was named the Retiree PEOPLE Recruiter of the Year for 2016-17.
• James
Ingoldsby Ingolsby
of Capital
District
Retirees Local 999 was named the Retiree PEOPLE Recruiter of the Year for 2016-17.
• Capital District Retirees
Local 999 was honored for recruiting the most new PEOPLE members in 2016-17. Local President and Retiree Executive Committee Secretary Jack Rohl accepted the honor on behalf of the local.
• New York Metropolitan Retirees Local 910 was honored for recruiting the most new PEOPLE members in 2017-18. Local President
Barbara Rustin accepted the honor on behalf of the local.
CSEA’s PEOPLE program protects and improves our jobs, benefits and pensions in Washington, Albany and in your
“
community.
Your support and participation
in PEOPLE strengthens CSEA’s clout in the workplace, in the legislature, in your community and in the labor movement.
I feel very strongly about the PEOPLE
program and that all CSEA members
should be involved in it. These are serious
times and we need to know that we have
someone lobbying on behalf of us and our
right to keep the benefits and pensions that
we’ve worked hard to have. Being retired
doesn’t mean that I can just go home and not think about what could happen if billionaires get their way and unions are eliminated. The PEOPLE program is our political clout in Washington and I am devoted to keeping it strong.
”
