Technology helps keep our union strong
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only changed the way members provide essential services to our communities, but how our union provides services to the members.
To provide services to Retiree members and abide by social distancing, we are relying on videoconference, teleconference and more technology to provide services, a change for many activists who may prefer more traditional face-to-face contact with members.
CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan is urging members to conduct meetings via videoconference
or teleconference. Many of our union’s planned in-person meetings this year have been canceled or postponed, including our in-person Retiree Delegates Meeting that was scheduled later this summer.
Our CSEA Retiree Executive Committee, along with Sullivan and Retiree Program Specialist Christine Meehan, recently held
their first-ever virtual meeting using Microsoft Teams.
“I thought the virtual meeting went very well and it was great to ‘see’ as many people as we could,” said Florida State North Local 952 President Joan Reinhart. “I still prefer Zoom as I think it is more user friendly.”
Over the past several years, CSEA has upgraded our union’s own technology to better serve members in a rapidly changing world.
CSEA is increasingly using remote meetings, webinars, online trainings and electronic communications such as frequent email blasts to members. Some of our online training programs are open to Retiree members.
The CSEA WORK Institute
is offering health and wellness webinars to Retiree members through a partnership with Balancing Life’s Issues. Topics include nutrition, sleep, exercise
