Medical providers & supplies: $712 (22 percent)
A recent study
by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that Medicare beneficiaries spent an average of $5,460 out-of-pocket on health care costs in 2016 (the most recent year statistics were available), including $2,294 on premiums (42 percent of $5,460) and $3,166 on health services (58 percent of $5,460). Long term care costs accounted for nearly $1 of every $3 spent. Here’s a breakdown of
the cost of health
services.
Prescription drugs: $651 (21 percent)
Dental services: $449 (14 percent)
Skilled nursing/home health: $157 (5 percent)
Outpatient hospital: $135 (4 percent)
Inpatient hospital: $48 (2 percent)
 Long-term care facility: $1,014 (32 percent)
