In a vote with historic turnout and unprecedented stakes for our country, Joe Biden has been elected President of the United States.
The election results were announced five days after Election Day to allow for the counting of votes in several states in which
the vote margins were close or had begun after November 3. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, record numbers of people voted by mail.
CSEA had endorsed Biden for election because his platform aligns with the majority of issues that concern our union and working people across the country, including support of unions and the right to organize; strong COVID-19 response and support for expanding Social Security.
In another historic move, Kamala Harris has been elected Vice President. She is the first woman, as well as first Black and South Asian
person, to serve in the office. CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan congratulated Biden and Harris on
the election.
“This is a historic moment in
America, with record levels of voter turnout and efforts taken to make sure every voter’s voice was heard and every vote counted, despite the pandemic,” Sullivan said. “CSEA is proud to have helped bring about change by electing President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. We look forward
to working with the Biden/Harris Administration to bring our country together and strengthen the Labor Movement, building a better, stronger, more united America.”
Due to absentee ballot counting, results for some Congressional, state and local offices were still not finalized as this edition went to press.
 Treats for those who served
