CSEA members who have a union- sponsored Term Life insurance plan recently received an additional
benefit in the form of a partial return of their paid premium.
For the 21st consecutive year, more than 22,000 CSEA members who participate in the Term Life Plan received this partial payment.
Here’s how the partial payment works. If we take in a greater amount in premium payments in a year
than we pay in claims, our union returns the surplus to members who participate in this plan.
The amount the participating members receive is based on a percentage of the amount of the premium they paid. The range
of returns has been between
10% to 20% of overall premium contributions. The percentage varies each year based on the surplus.
The Term Life Insurance plan pays more than $10 million in claims annually. Historically, we have returned approximately $50 million
to our members who participate in Term Life.
Important to note – this is NOT a guaranteed return, though our union has been fortunate to be able to issue the return of premium payments for 21 years.
“This is just another way that
you can protect your family through your union membership,” said CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan. “These plans give you and your family peace of mind, and the ability of our union to give members this partial return is just one more benefit.
One of the myriad CSEA member-only benefits, this term
life program, administered by CSEA and underwritten by MetLife, is one of the many voluntary insurance plans available to CSEA members, including retiree members.
