CSEA-backed bills signed into law
ALBANY — Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed into law two CSEA- backed bills that are each designed to enhance the rights and working conditions of the public sector workforce.
“Our union’s involvement in legislative and political action matters,” said CSEA President Mary E. Sullivan.
The first new law provides protection for labor class and non- competitive class employees when there is a reduction in the workforce. This means that the majority of the CSEA workforce will benefit from
consistent safeguards. This law will go into effect on Feb. 19. 2024.
The other law, effective on Jan. 1, 2025, ensures that local government ambulance forces, emergency medical service (EMS) providers and other providers of ambulance services are paid directly by insurance companies even if they are not preferred providers. This legislation eliminates unnecessary barriers and will ensure that all providers get paid.
