CSEA members across the state marked Workers’ Memorial Day through events to not only mourn fallen workers, but to fight to ensure that everyone can go to work — and return home — safely.
In Rochester, state Department
of Transportation (DOT Region
4) workers held a Workers’ Day Memorial Ceremony at the Clover Street facility to honor those brothers and sisters we have lost while working on the job. State Department of Transportation
(DOT Region 4) Local Treasurer Brian Ossont and Genesee-Orleans- Wyoming state Department of Transportation Local President Don Saulter were among those who spoke at the event.
In Oneonta, more than 50
Central Region members observed Workers’ Memorial Day through
a remembrance event at Neahwa Park. The Central Region Safety and Health Committee led the region’s eighth annual planting of its “living memorial tree” dedicated to those who have died while doing their jobs.
In addition to remembering our brothers and sisters and other workers who have died or become seriously injured while doing their jobs, Workers’ Memorial Day is used as an opportunity to renew our ongoing commitment to ensuring that all workplaces are safe.
