ORDINARY PEOPLE
Jack Auster: Hometown Hero
Jack Auster will tell you he is just a regular guy. But the people who know him well would disagree. In his lifetime, Jack has likely saved hundreds, maybe even thousands, of lives, thanks to his ambitious blood and platelet donation schedule.
Every two weeks (if he is physically able), Jack rolls up his sleeve to donate — a process that takes more than three hours per session.
doing extraordinary things!
“I am not doing this for the recognition. I’m just an ordinary guy, doing what I think we all should be doing. I don’t have thousands of dollars to donate to charity, but I can do my part: donating platelets doesn’t cost me anything, and I can help a lot of people who really need it, like cancer patients and accident victims.” — Jack Auster

Let’s Talk Disability
Most CSEA Members DON’T receive Disability
Insurance protection from their employer
While some CSEA Members may be offered Disability Insurance they can pay for through their employer, very few have automatic coverage for disabilities that occur outside of work.
If you think you’re covered for a disability, think again...
Workers’ Compensation Covers Only About 5% of Disabilities
Workers’ Comp covers job-related injuries, but almost 90% of disabilities result from illness, not accidents. An additional 5% are injuries that happen off the job, and therefore wouldn’t qualify for either.
Social Security Disability Benefits can be Difficult to Qualify For
A person can only qualify for SSDI if they can’t work due to a severe medical condition that has lasted, or is expected to last, at least a year or result in death. For those that do not qualify, the average monthly benefit is $1,165, barely above the poverty level.
Look for the “Let’s Talk Disability” campaign in mailers, brochures, events, emails, social media and more throughout 2016. We’re here to help you get protected!
