CHEEKTOWAGA — On Feb. 1, CSEA members
from the Erie County Local Women’s Committee and invited guests honored deserving charities, nonprofits and a CSEA family from the Buffalo metropolitan area. Judi Knight, the local Women’s Committee chair, served as host of the event and introduced each of the award recipients. More than $8,000 was donated at the event. Honorees were Mary Molly Shea, RN, MSN, a patient safety investigator at Erie County Medical Center who works with sexual assault victims; Dani Heferle, community liaison at Child & Family Services / Haven House; Vincent Dusch, Plymouth House/ Plymouth Crossroads and the family of CSEA member and Town of West Seneca Highway Department employee Donald F. Schultz, who passed away while doing his job. Schultz’ son
son Matt attended the dinner and accepted a check on behalf of his family to help with ongoing expenses. Town of West Seneca Unit President Brian Cummins also attended the dinner. “All these groups and individuals who received financial contributions from our committee are doing amazing work,” Knight said. “The CSEA family is a very giving and loving crew — and the recipients were thrilled to receive our attention and help.”

Boyd, who originally received choking rescue training while serving in the military, promptly delivered the Heimlich maneuver. This was the second time Boyd saved a life; he aided a choking student at Gardnertown School in 2014. CSEA activist Margaret Kiernan, who also works at Horizons, said Boyd has long been a role model for students.
