Smith, Bright help grow our PEOPLE power
Central Region activists Gloria Smith and Karen Bright are fired up on PEOPLE power as they work to grow the program.
Smith, a SUNY Upstate Local activist who works as a phlebotomist at SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital, is the PEOPLE Recruiter of the Month for February.
Bright, a social welfare examiner at the Madison County Department of Social Services and a Madison County Local activist, was named the PEOPLE Recruiter of the Month for March.

“I believe in the PEOPLE program,” Bright
said. “Unions are under attack in this country
and if we are not willing to fight for ourselves,
as union members, who do we think is going to fight for us? I know the PEOPLE program fights for jobs, job safety, a secure pension, along with worker-friendly legislation. I also know how important it is to fight back when you’re being attacked, and that’s why we need every CSEA brother and sister to join the fight by joining PEOPLE.”
CSEA’s PEOPLE program protects and improves our jobs, benefits and pensions in Washington, Albany and in your community. Your support and participation in PEOPLE strengthens CSEA’s clout in the workplace, in the legislature, in your community and in the labor movement.

Smith and Bright, who each recruited six new PEOPLE members, strongly urge all of our members to join the program.
“I tell our members that they should think
of joining PEOPLE Program as job insurance,” Smith said. “We need the resources to fight back at the federal level to preserve our jobs and our benefits, and PEOPLE gives us the power to do that. With corporations and CEOs trying to take more of our power away from us, this is how we fight back. It couldn’t be more important.”
