GARDEN CITY — We are mourning the loss of CSEA Nassau County Local 5th Vice President Gary Volpe, 59, who passed away suddenly on July 28 from injuries in an ATV accident.

the local’s Police Communications Operators Unit. Volpe was also known for his work in ensuring adequate staffing and other workplace safety issues at the county’s emergency call center. He was also a leading voice in ensuring equal pay for the county’s female operators, helping organize a successful class-action suit against the county.
“Our union has lost a strong advocate for worker safety and fairness,” CSEA President Danny Donohue said. “Gary worked nonstop to improve conditions for our members, and we extend our sincere condolences to his loved ones, including his co-workers.”
Volpe, a
dispatcher and 911 operator, had served our union in several leadership roles in the Nassau County Local over the past
22 years.

CSEA President Danny Donohue will visit the Central and
Southern Regions to meet with members.
Central Region: Donohue will visit the CSEA Central Region
on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The meetings will be held from 1 p.m. to
6:45 p.m. at the CSEA Central Region Office, 6595 Kirkville Rd., East Syracuse. Please call the region office at (315) 433-0050 for an appointment and directions.
Southern Region: Donohue will visit the CSEA Southern Region on Wednesday,
Oct. 3. The meetings will be held from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the CSEA Southern Region Office, 568 State Route 52, Beacon. Please call the region office at (845) 831-1000 for an appointment and directions.
