Project 2025 proposals will harm union members!
Eliminate public sector unions. Remove seniority rights. Weaken worker pay and benefits. Gut public education.
These are just a few of the proposals outlined in Project 2025, an extensive policy proposal developed by the Heritage Foundation, a far-right think tank. The document is intended to be
a policy blueprint for the next Republican administration.
Here are a few of the proposals in Project 2025 that would hurt union members:
Eliminate public sector unions and worker protections
Project 2025 includes proposals that would be devastating to unions and working people.
The document is openly calling for Congress to eliminate public- sector unions, noting, “Congress should consider whether public- sector unions are appropriate in the first place.”
At the same time, they
want to allow states and local governments to waive federal labor laws like the National Labor Relations Act and the Wages and Fair Labor Standards Act, which would undermine the labor rights and protections that we have had for nearly a century.
Additionally, Project 2025 supports removing seniority protections during layoffs and letting management lay off whomever they want.
Cut public jobs
Staffing remains a critical issue for many public employers, but Project 2025 would like to reduce
the public workforce. That’s right – they want to REDUCE public workers when we badly need to recruit and retain them.
They also want to cut public jobs because they believe our pay and benefits are “too expensive.” These job reductions won’t
save money – they will only gut government services and hurt public sector employees and their families.
Devastate public education
Project 2025 is also taking aim at your children’s education. They have proposed to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.
They also want to end all federal spending on education, which would cause a huge deficit for school districts everywhere.
The document also supports voucher programs that would allow tax dollars to be redirected towards private schools. This would have a significant negative impact on public school system funding!
CSEA’s Statewide and Region Political Action Committee members have been educating members at membership meetings about the proposal and how it harm union members.
Visit cseany.org/vote to see fliers that highlight the most concerning of these proposals for CSEA members or to contact your region’s political action coordinator to learn more.
