etiree NEWS R Election Special 2017 Retiree Elections Information The term of office for current local and unit officers expires on June 30, 2017. The CSEA Statewide Election Committee (SEC) will oversee the entire process for all retiree local and unit elections. Local and Unit positions covered by this election are listed in this newsletter. Your local or unit is identified on your address label on this newsletter. Locate this number on the label and then look for your local or unit number on the list of positions herein in order to determine which positions are to be elected in your local or unit. Retiree applications for election to any of these positions must be returned to CSEA Headquarters by March 6, 2017. The complete election schedule appears to the right. Candidate eligibility for retiree office will be verified by the CSEA Membership Department. Applicants will be advised of any problems with their status. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to confirm the spelling of their names or decline their candidacy by March 14, 2017. Qualified retiree candidates without any opposition will be deemed “elected/unopposed” and notified of their election by the SEC. Pages 3 – 5 for the following Retiree offices: President, Vice President (or more than one depending on by-laws), Secretary, Treasurer. The slate may include candidates for such other offices, which may have been created pursuant to Article IV of the Retiree Local Constitution and described in the Retiree Local by-laws. Each member of the slate must meet the constitutional eligibility requirements for the position he/ she is seeking, in accordance with the Retiree Local Constitution. 2017 Election Schedule Date Activity March 6 Retiree Applications for Election to Office due to Headquarters March 14 Deadline for declinations/name confirmation March 16 Drawing for ballot position April 19 Ballots mailed April 26 Replacement ballots available May 18 Ballots due in specified postal box at 9:30 a.m. May 18 Ballot tallies begin for contested races at 10:00 a.m. May 19 Certified retiree election results announced May 28 Ten-day protest period ends After receipt of the names of qualified retiree candidates, the SEC will conduct a drawing for ballot position for each contested retiree local and/or unit election on March 16, 2017. The SEC shall oversee the design, finalization, printing, and mailing of all ballots. Ballots will be mailed from Headquarters on April 19, 2017 to all eligible retiree members for each contested retiree local and/or unit election. Replacement ballots will be available on April 26, 2017. You may contact the SEC at 1-800-342-4146, ext. 1447 to request a replacement ballot. Ballots are due to the specified postal box on May 18, 2017. The SEC will supervise and certify the ballot tally for all retiree elections and announce the results. Retiree candidates shall receive written notice of their election results. Notice of election results will be published in a subsequent Retiree Newsletter and sent to all retiree members as soon as possible after the certification of the results. The SEC shall address any and all retiree election protests. Slate Applications Any Retiree candidates running as a slate must insure there is one candidate for each office, and each application for the slate must contain the slate name.
