Region 6 First Vice President Bob Pyjas


After graduating from South Park High School in 1968 Bob Pyjas started his union association that same year as a member of the International Brotherhood of Longshoremen.

He worked as a scooper on the Buffalo waterfront until he was drafted into the Armed Forces of the United States in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army,during which time he attained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1972.

After returning from the service he worked in the trucking industry as a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 375 until 1986. In the fall of that year he began his career as a Correction Officer at the Erie County Correctional Facility and rose to the rank of Correction Lieutenant, where he continues to be employed.

Bob has been actively involved with the CSEA since 1992, at which time he served as a vice president and later became president of CSEA Corrections Section. He has held many titles and positions throughout his years as a union activist with CSEA.

Besides being elected as second vice president of Region 6 he currently is a member of the CSEA Board of Directors, Treasurer of Local 815, and since 2002 he continues to work full time as the Erie Unit Grievance Chair representing four thousand plus members.

Bob is a graduate of the CSEA LEAD Program and received a Labor Studies certificate from Cornell University.He is a member of CBTU, CLUW, and CEJ. He serves as a representative for CSEA on the Steering Committee of AFSCME Correction United. He is an advocate for U.S. Veteran rights, a longtime member of the American Legion,and serves on the Statewide Veteran’s Committee and chairs the Region 6 Veteran’s Committee.
Bob resides in Lancaster, NY with his beautiful spouse Paulette; together they have five children three lovely daughters and two sons.
