HAUPPAUGE — CSEA members provide assistance to their communities both on and off the job.
In our region, many go the extra mile by joining philanthropic groups like the state Department of Transportation’s State Employee Federated Appeal (SEFA) committee.

SEFA is a statewide initiative of New York state employees in which payroll-deducted contributions from donating workers are made to local, charitable organizations.

Every year, local SEFA committees across the state provide assistance to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, which includes those that offer a variety of health and human services as well as preservation of cultural, historical and environmental resources.

The state DOT SEFA committee recently held its annual silent auction, which raised $1,723.

The final tally includes the silent auction at the State Office Building in Hauppauge as well as the additional state
DOT field offices that held separate fundraisers for SEFA. All profits from the auctions will be divided equally between Disabled American Veterans, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Fund, A Wing and a Prayer and the island of Puerto Rico.
