EAST SYRACUSE — CSEA offers our members many opportunities for assistance in paying for college, including our AFSCME Free College Program, and several union scholarships at the national, statewide, regional and local levels.
The Central Region application deadline is now June 1, 2021 for our 15th annual College Scholarship awards from eligible high school seniors whose parents, legal guardians or grandparents are Region 5 CSEA members in good-standing and who work in one of the following counties:
Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Franklin, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga or Tompkins Counties.
The Region will award at least four college scholarships to the highest-ranking applicants who are judged upon multiple criteria, including, but not limited to: academic standing; extracurricular, scholastic and community activities; essay; and references. Applicants will be required to write an essay of 250-500 words on the topic “What Union membership has meant to my family.”
