On April 28, CSEA and other unions observed Workers’ Memorial Day to remember those who have died or become seriously injured while doing their jobs.
The day is also used as an opportunity to reaffirm our union’s commitment to fighting for safer, healthier workplaces. This year, CSEA remembers the following members who passed away while doing their jobs:
Johnathan Kehoe, 59
April 1, 2020
Kehoe was a horticulturist with the Village of Lindenhurst in Suffolk County who volunteered to work on a sanitation run due to short staffing from the pandemic. He was killed after being struck by a sanitation truck.
Michael Rahm, 58
July 28, 2020
Rahm was a senior groundskeeper with the Monroe- Woodbury Central School District in Orange County who died of natural causes in his poorly-ventilated office after working outside all day on a hot day.
Andrew Sanchez, 74
December 2, 2020
Sanchez was a bus driver in the Washingtonville Central School District who died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Our union continues to remember all the members we’ve lost in our union family due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We honor their memories, mourn their losses, and pay tribute to them. For a listing of those we’ve been notified of, please visit https://cseany.org/member-tributes
