That was the unforgettable message CSEA members heard from the Rev. Dr. William Barber II at CSEA’s recent Annual Delegates Meeting. It’s a powerful and important message that CSEA members and others across New York and our nation need to hear and follow. You can easily view this inspiring message at www.cseany.org. The Rev. Barber is the president of the North Carolina NAACP and the founder of the Moral Mondays movement — clergy and other people of faith joining together in prayer and plain talk to call for a change in our politics and public policy. CSEA participated in a number of Moral Monday activities as part of our community coalition building for a moral state budget last winter and spring. We also responded to the Rev. Barber’s call to rally at the state Capitol this past August. The moral march to the polls was held in more than two dozen state capitals to coincide with the 51st anniversary of the Civil Rights March on Washington. Its purpose was to bring together good and decent people, stress voter empowerment and call for ethical elected officials and government that works for the people — all the people. Our alliance with the Moral Monday movement is part of a focused effort to better connect with other groups in our communities who share a vision for a better America. It is only by joining together, working to end the obscene income inequality and injustice and by VOTING that we can bring about meaningful change. Take the next step toward a more just world by casting your ballot Nov. 4 for candidates who have the well-being of real people in real communities at heart.
