Local 909 Dutchess-Putnam Nov. 12

 CSEA is mourning the loss of
former Capital District Retirees Local 999 2nd Vice President E. Marie DeShaw, who passed away on Aug. 10, 2024. She was 76.
While employed, Marie had worked at the state Department of Education and was active in our union’s Education Department Local, serving as the local’s 1st Vice President and 3rd Vice
President.
After retiring in 2003, Marie
continued her union activism through Capital District Retirees Local 999. She served as Local 999’s corresponding secretary and 2nd Vice President.
Off the job, Marie enjoyed photography and volunteered with the Wynantskill Ambulance. She also loved animals and was known for her kind, giving heart.
She is survived by close friends Keith Prior, Dan Mooney and many others, as well as a godson, Christian Ozack.
 Former Local 952 President Joseph Schlosser
CSEA is mourning the loss of
former Florida State Retirees North Local 952 President Joseph Schlosser, who passed away on July 21, 2024. He was 81.
Before retiring, Joseph had worked at Nassau University
Medical Center in support services and served as the Nassau University Medical Center Unit 3rd Vice President from 1998
to 2000. After his retirement,
he was a member of the Suffolk Area Retirees Local 920 before he relocated to Florida.
In addition to serving as Local 952 President, he served in numerous leadership posts for both the local and Local 952, Unit 4 (Lake, Sumter and The Villages).

Susan Matan, longtime Capital Region activist
CSEA is mourning the loss of
Capital District Retirees Local 999 member and longtime activist Susan Matan, who passed away on Sept. 25, 2024. She was 85.
Susan was employed at
the New York State Insurance Department and was active in our
union, including serving as State Division of Financial Services
Local President and Executive Vice President. Susan also served on the CSEA Board of Directors.
After retiring in 2001, Susan joined Capital District Retirees Local 999. She enjoyed spending time with family at Brant Lake.
She is survived by two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and good friends.
Services were held on October 3.
