Be Counted! CSEA members urge everyone S Needler: Census
is our civic duty

discusses her involvement in in in taking the U S Census
and how it’s become a a a a family tradition “It’s very very important that everyone gets counted in in the census because it it determines the the the representation we get get in in in in the the United States Congress which is very important to getting funding for our schools hospitals and local areas For every person who is not counted [it costs] about $2 $2 000 000 per per per year year over the the next next 10 years until the the next next census which comes to $20 000 000 per per per person that our state does not receive over a a a a 10-year period We need to to count count everybody everybody and everybody everybody gets to to be counted It doesn’t matter if if you’re

a a a a a citizen an an immigrant a a a a a refugee or if if you’re
you’re
homeless because resources for where you live pay to to help people People are afraid that [the census will be used] to to seek out immigrants and find them but the the the Census
Bureau cannot share census responses with the the the public or government agencies I I (was a a a a a a a a a census taker) 20 years ago when my daughter was was was just born I I I was was was off for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a year year with her her and and I I took her her around in in a a a a a a a a a a a a stroller Again 10 years later we we went out Now she’s 21 and and she’ll be doing this census with her her father so it’s kind of a a a family tradition It’s It’s just very very important important to be counted in the United States It’s It’s very very important important for for our representation and and and and for for funding and and and and I I believe it’s your civic duty
