Election Oversight
The union’s Statewide Election Committee will oversee the election process. The American Arbitration Association, an independent election agency approved by the union’s Statewide Board of Directors, is conducting the balloting.
SAMPLE BALLOT VOTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. You should have received ONE BALLOT reflecting all CSEA 2020 elections in which YOU HAVE A VOTE. In addition, you should have received a SECRET BALLOT envelope and a postage-paid BUSINESS REPLY ENVELOPE with 2 windows. If you do not have all three items, or if any materials are damaged, please call the American Arbitration Association at 1-800-529-5218.
2. Mark your ballot with an “X” in the box(es) of your choice. You may vote in the following ways:
a) You may vote for an entire SLATE by marking the slate box at the top of the slate column.
b) If you choose not to vote for an entire slate, you may vote for INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES for any office by marking an “X” in the box next to the individual candidate’s name. You may do this whether the candidate is running individually or as part of a slate. You may vote for any candidates individually as long as your total votes do not exceed the number set forth for the specific race.
3. DO NOT SIGN THE BALLOT.
4. DO NOT WRITE-IN THE NAME OF ANY CANDIDATE.
5. After you finish marking the ballot, detach the address slip at the bottom of the ballot along the dotted line. Place your ballot into the SECRET BALLOT envelope and seal it. Do not write or make any mark on the SECRET BALLOT envelope.
6. Place the SECRET BALLOT envelope inside the double-window postage-paid BUSINESS REPLY ENVELOPE. Then insert the address slip into the front of the double window so that the return addresses show through the windows.
7. YOUR RETURN ADDRESS MUST APPEAR IN THE OPEN WINDOW OR YOUR BALLOT WILL NOT BE COUNTED. Your return address is used to validate your eligibility to vote. The secrecy of your vote will be maintained because the SECRET BALLOT envelopes are separated from all other materials before ballots are opened and tabulated.
8. Mail your BUSINESS REPLY ENVELOPE as soon as possible. No postage is necessary if mailed in the United States. Your ballot must be received at the Post Office by 8:00 a.m. on February 13, 2020 in order to be counted.
9. The ballot count will take place on February 13, 2020 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the American Arbitration Association, 120 Broadway, New York, New York.
10. Successful candidates will be published in The Work Force.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES MAY VOID YOUR BALLOT.
This is a reminder that in order to vote in the upcoming CSEA Statewide Elections, members will not need to write their CSEA Member ID number anywhere on the return ballot. Every eligible member will be mailed a ballot containing all of the races they are eligible to vote in — Statewide
Officers, applicable Region Officers (if there’s a race), Board seat
(if there’s a race) and AFSCME Delegates (if there’s a race) — and the ballot return slip will include member information that is scanned by the election agency to verify eligibility.
Private Sector Board of Directors’ Seats Election
Due to the increase in membership in the CSEA Private Sector, there are now
three seats on the CSEA Statewide Board of Directors. Pursuant to
the CSEA constitution, the Private Sector Executive Committee Chair, Deborah Hanna, is an automatic Board member by virtue of being the chairperson. The two additional Board seats could not be from the same employer.
An election was held for the two remaining Board seats. Migdalia Perry was elected/unopposed as she was the only candidate from Local 773.
An election was held for the third seat, with four candidates running from CSEA/VOICE Local 100A. A ballot tally was held at CSEA Headquarters on December 23, 2019. Pamela Wells won the election.
