2025 Special Election for Board of Directors Seats
CSEA’s notice of nomination and election:
Nominations will take place between February 10 – March 3, 2025, for the following unfilled Board of Directors seats, consisting of representatives of the State Executive Committee and the Local Government Executive Committee.
Local Government:
Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Delaware, Essex, Franklin,
Genesee, Herkimer, Lewis, Monroe, Montgomery, Oneida, Orleans, Schuyler, Tioga, Wayne, Westchester (2), Wyoming, and Yates Counties;
Local Government Educational Region 6.
State:
Agriculture & Markets, Audit & Control, Civil Service, Correctional Services & Community Supervision, Executive, Financial Services, Health Department, Labor Department, Mental Hygiene Region 2, Mental Hygiene Region 4, Mental Hygiene Region 5 (2), Mental Hygiene Region 6, Public Service, State Public Authorities.
CSEA Election Schedule:
January 13, 2025: Nominating notices and petition request forms mailed
to Local Presidents, for distribution by request. (Petition request forms will also be available from CSEA Headquarters and CSEA Region offices.) Petition request forms may
be filled out and returned to CSEA Headquarters and/or CSEA Region offices ahead of time.
February 10, 2025: First day of petitioning period. Nominating petitions will not be released until this day.
February 21, 2025: Voter eligibility date.
March 3, 2025: Deadline for nominating petitions to be received at CSEA Headquarters (5:00 p.m.)
March 7, 2025: Voter lists available for inspection. Local and Unit President labels available.
March 12, 2025: Deadline for review of invalid signatures. Deadline for declinations & name confirmation. Deadline for candidates to submit for publication in The Work Force their
picture, the entity they work for, and the CSEA office they are seeking.
March 13, 2025: Drawing for positions on ballot (1:00)
March 18, 2025: Deadline for campaign literature submission for printing (5:00).
April 7, 2025: Ballots mailed.
April 14, 2025: Replacement ballots
available.
May 1, 2025: Deadline for receipt of ballots (9:00 a.m.). Ballot count commences (9:30 a.m.).
Election results will be announced after the ballot count is complete and certified. Protest period ends 10 days following the Statewide Election Committee’s certification of results. Candidates will be notified by mail
of the results. Election results will be published in the June 2025 edition of The Work Force.
The term of office starts immediately and ends February 29, 2028.
Voting Eligibility Date
Where balloting will be necessary, only CSEA members in good standing as of February 21, 2025, will be eligible to vote in the election.
Rules on Running for Statewide Board of Directors
To be eligible to seek office, a candidate must be at least 18 years old; a CSEA member in good standing of the voting jurisdiction for the Board seat being sought, since January 1, 2024; shall not have been a member
of a competing labor association or union since January 1, 2024; shall not currently be serving a disciplinary penalty imposed by CSEA’s Judicial Board; and shall not have been the subject of a bonding claim by the Association or disqualified from being covered by the Association’s surety bond.
Any CSEA member who meets
the above criteria may become a candidate for a Board seat and have his or her name placed on the ballot by obtaining, on official nominating petition forms, the required number of printed names, signatures, and 10-digit CSEA ID numbers of CSEA members eligible to vote in the election. Use of the last four digits of Social Security numbers is not accepted.
All signers must be from the Board seat’s voting jurisdiction of the candidate.
Nominating petition signatures must be of CSEA dues-paying members who are not serving a Judicial
Board suspension and who have no delinquent dues.
Members seeking an office may petition individually, or as part of a slate in those departments or political subdivisions which are entitled to more than one Board seat. In such instances, to constitute a slate there must be a candidate for each of the seats to which the department or political subdivision is entitled in that election.
Election Oversight
The union’s Statewide Election Committee will oversee the election process. Any CSEA member who
is considering running for office
may obtain information about the election process by calling the Statewide Election Committee at CSEA Headquarters 1-800-342-4146, ext. 1447. Please check the CSEA bulletin boards at your workplace or with your Local President for more election details and documents.
ATTENTION: CSEA/VOICE 100A Members
Important Election Information
2025 is an election year for CSEA/ VOICE 100A local and chapter officers. CSEA/VOICE 100A is divided into 26 geographical chapters, in which each chapter shall elect a Chapter Representative.
Any interested eligible members who wish to run for the position
of Chapter Representative must complete an Application for Office, which will be mailed (along with an election schedule and detailed information) the beginning of February.
Where there are races, election ballots will be mailed from CSEA Headquarters on May 15, 2025, to all eligible CSEA/VOICE 100A members. Ballots will be due on June 11, 2025. Each elected Chapter Representative will hold office for three years, beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2028.
