System employees, local government employees
enrolled in our Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Solstice
Vision Plans, as well as eligible retirees.
All of our vision plans include an eye exam and
plan frames and lenses for eligible dependents
under the age 19 every
calendar year. Always
check your plan summary
descriptions to learn about
coverage beyond age 19 as
frequency varies from plan
to plan.
The EBF has partnered
with Davis Vision for more
than 40 years to provide
our union members with
the best vision benefits possible. Below is helpful
information from Davis Vision about taking care of
your child’s eyes:
When to start eye care
At birth, a baby can only focus 8 to 10 inches in
front of them. Over the next several months, their
vision gradually expands and continues to develop
throughout childhood. Help your child build strong
visual skills by reading together, doing arts and
crafts and encouraging activities that enhance
hand-eye coordination.
Children can have their first eye exam as early as
age 3. This initial checkup helps ensure their vision
is developing properly and
serves as an important step in
preparing them for school.
Regular exams are critical.
80% of a child’s learning is
visual, and most children won’t
report vision problems on their
own. If your child frequently
squints or blinks, it may be time
for a visit to the eye doctor.
Choosing the right glasses
If your child needs glasses, choose a sturdy,
resilient frame made from metal or plastic.
Polycarbonate lenses are ideal because they are
lightweight, scratch-resistant and highly durable.
For added comfort and fit, ask your eye care
provider about features such as spring hinges,

cable temples, and adjustable nose pads.
