Westchester County Department of Emergency Services CSEA members trained the firefighters and emergency medical personnel responding to the Commerce Street rail crossing. Others with emergency management backgrounds were involved following the crash. Westchester County Department of Public Safety and State Police CSEA-represented dispatchers fielded emergency calls and directed first responders. Westchester Medical Center CSEA-represented medical and ancillary staff activated Westchester Medical Center’s emergency operations center and helped triage crash victims as they arrived at the regional trauma and burn center. Westchester County Department of Labs and Research CSEA members working with the medical examiner assisted with the challenging task of identifying deceased crash victims. Westchester County Department of Mental Health Mental health workers helped provide support for family members and first responders. Town of Greenburgh Ambulances CSEA members working as paramedics and emergency medical technicians for the Town of Greenburgh were part of a fleet of ambulances transporting victims. Valhalla Fire Department Valhalla Fire Chief Roger King, who also serves as Westchester Medical Center unit president, was the first firefighter at the crash scene and served as incident commander.
