Resolutions proposed for CSEA’s Annual Delegates Meeting
PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS for consideration by delegates attending CSEA’s 108th Annual Delegates Meeting from Oct. 29 – Nov. 2 in New York City.
If you wish to see copies of any resolution, please contact your delegate.
1. Resolution to Support a National Ban on Conversion Therapy
Submitted by Bess Watts, Local 828; Noel De La Cruz, Local 860; Eileen Moskowitz, Local 865; Mary Sullivan, Executive Vice President, CSEA Local 1000; Todd Smith, Local 842; Marie Rogers, Local 010 and Chantalise DeMarco, Local 855.
CSEA is pledging to support legislation to ban conversion therapies and related sexual orientation change efforts in New York State. Education,
social work, health, mental health and counseling professional across the country have determined
that there is no evidence that conversion therapy is effective or changes one’s sexual orientation or gender identity, and that such therapy can be significantly detrimental to one’s mental and physical well being. CSEA is opposed to any portrayals of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or gender non-conforming people as having mental illness due to one’s sexual orientation or identity, and our union is determined
to protect them from being defrauded by people who are seeking to profit by offering this harmful, baseless therapy.
The Resolutions Committee recommends this resolution be adopted as written.
2. Resolution to Stay Union-Stay Strong and Viable in a Post-Janus World
Submitted by Danny Donohue, President; Mary Sullivan, Executive Vice President; Denise Berkley,
Secretary; Bill Walsh, Treasurer; Nick LaMorte, President, Long Island Region 1; Lester Crockett, President, Metropolitan Region 2; Billy Riccaldo, President, Southern Region 3; Ron Briggs, President, Capital Region 4; Colleen Wheaton, President, Central Region 5 and Flo Tripi, President, Western Region 6, of CSEA Local 1000, AFSCME, AFL-CIO.
In the aftermath of Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, corporate interests continue to spend large amounts of money to attack union members and our wages, benefits, rights and retirement security. CSEA has embarked on an effort to engage every one of our members and urge you to never quit on each other. Because unions are the last defense against corporate CEOs and the wealthy who oppose us, we will continue to engage CSEA members and mobilize our members around the value of staying union.
The Resolutions Committee recommends this resolution be adopted as written.
