Cycling the Erie Canal
ROCHESTER
— More than
650 cyclists
left their cars
behind in
Buffalo on July
9 to pedal along
the historic Erie
Canalway Trail
to Albany in
celebration of
the Erie Canal Bicentennial as part of NYS Parks & Trails’ 19th annual Cycle the Erie Canal bike tour. CSEA was a proud sponsor of this event. Cyclists rode between 40 to 60 miles per day before the 400-mile tour ended in Albany on July 16. CSEA member and Monroe Community College Facilities secretary Meg LeBeau and
her husband Craig were among those who participated in the tour. She said the trip was fun and so well organized that they plan to participate on the bike tour again next year. Photo provided by Craig LeBeau.
Country was made even more beautiful thanks to the efforts of CSEA Clinton County Local members. The local, which adopted a highway, recently worked together to remove debris and spruce up the roadway and surroundings. Photos provided by Bill McNierney.

CUnion effort flips school board
SEA members’ hard work in
getting out the vote contributed
to two CSEA-endorsed candidates, Doreen Clifford and Debra Long, being elected to the Poughkeepsie Board of Education. With last year’s election of CSEA-supported candidate Dr. Felicia Watson, the school board now has a pro-union majority. Southern Region President Billy Riccaldo said these election victories are creating hope after many dismal years of job cuts and disrespectful treatment toward workers. Community members turned out in record numbers for the election.

in the recent Rome Honor America Days Parade. We showed our union solidarity and pride at the parade, reminding the public that we never quit on our communities and the people of New York.
