Nassau County workers see justice after illegal subcontracting of union jobs

After five years of litigation, the CSEA Nassau County Local won $2.5 million in retroactive pay from Nassau County for the illegal subcontracting of union jobs.

This is not only a victory for the affected workers, but for all working people.

Full-time workers who were employed at the Department of Social Services (DSS) for the entirety of the time that the jobs were being outsourced received $10,000. Members who worked part-time, or didn’t work for DSS the entire four years the work was being subcontracted, received a partial amount.

Today, members were given their compensation for the work and overtime they didn’t receive as a result of the outsourcing. When we stand strong and never quit working for what is right, great things can happen.

“This was the best member meeting that I’ve ever been to,” Glen Tuifel, the local’s grievance chair.
