Delegates to CSEA’s 114th Delegates Meeting approved the following change to our union’s Constitution at a first reading, with a friendly amendment, which will be read for a second time at the next Delegates Meeting:
- Constitution Article XIII, Amendments, would require that proposed amendments be provided to the Region Constitution and By-Laws Committees by a certain date. It would also reduce the number of required readings from two to one, which in effect would allow for changes to go into effect immediately.
The Delegates also approved the following changes to our union’s By-Laws which go into effect immediately:
- By-Laws Article III, Statewide Elections, Section 2, for Board of Directors (State and Local Government Executive Committees only): lowered the percentage of required petition signatures to 5 percent and also lowered the maximum number to 100 signatures.
- By-Laws Article VI, Committees, Section 4, updated the LGBT Committee’s name to “LGBTQ+”.
- Delegates approved the following Resolutions:
- Number 1-24, condemning all acts of political violence by demonstrating the importance of peaceful discourse and solidarity for the betterment of all working people.
- Number 2-24, supporting equal rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and supports and advocates for equal protection and justice for all New Yorkers.
- Number 3-24, restoring dignity and rights for CSEA members and the public and private workforce to improve their lives, and advocating for workplace dignity and secure social equity.
- Number 4-24, calling upon legislators to prioritize further reforms to Tiers 5 and 6 making retirement more equitable for all public employees, and furthering recruitment and retention.
- Number 5-24, calling for the passage of H.R. 2663 Workplace Prevention for Health Care and Social Services Worker Act to protect our most vulnerable workers against senseless acts of violence and dangers faced on the job, daily.
- Number 6-24, committing to accountability and transparency when public services are privatized, and ensuring private sector members voices are heard and their rights are protected.
- Number 7-24, making New Member Orientation (NEO) training a high priority by educating CSEA leaders and ensuring resources are provided to those completing NEOs.
