LAKE GEORGE — Every Spring our Region holds a conference, designed to bring activists and leaders together for information/idea sharing, skill-sharpening and educational workshops. We also hold a Region Executive Board Meeting during the weekend, to take care of the regular business of running our union.
Our Spring Workshop for 2017 was recently held at the Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center in Lake George, NY, and featured informative workshops presented by a variety of presenters, and even a visit from the King of Rock & Roll (it was Elvis Weekend in Lake George).
We were very proud to have CSEA Executive Vice President Mary Sullivan join us for part of our weekend and about 200 activists from around our Region attended the three-day workshop!
Here are some highlights of what took place at the conference:
Information Tables – Representatives from many organizations and the union’s professional staff set up tables to distribute information about the many benefits and services they provide to CSEA members throughout our Region
Workshop: How to Avoid Dicrimination in the Workplace – Presented by CSEA Associate Counsel Jennifer Zegarelli, Esq.
Workshop: Educate Yourself to Protect Yourself – Surviving an Active Shooter Event – Presented by Albany Co. Sheriff’s Department Senior Investigator Ron Messen
Workshop: Our Community in Crisis: The Heroin Epidemic – Presented by CSEA Occupational Safety & Health Specialist Josh Kemp
Flag Retirement Ceremony – Presented by the Region 5 Veterans Committee in conjunction with the staff at Fort William Henry (see article and photos from event)
Executive Board Meeting – Presided over by Region President Colleen Wheaton – One of four Region Executive Board Meetings that we hold throughout the year to get the business of our Region accomplished.
If you have interests in any of these topics or workshops presented, please ask the representatives from your Local or Unit who attended to share with you what they learned, or any materials they may have brought back from the sessions. Information sharing is vital to an informed, involved and active membership!
