Members collect useful paperwork about retirement for their records.

GARDEN CITY — Long Island Region members who are considering retirement recently attended a seminar at Nassau Community College to learn more about taking that important step.

Attendees received important information from speakers representing the New York State and Local Retirement System, New York State Compensation Plan, Pearl Carroll & Associates, CSEA Employee Benefit Fund and our union’s Retiree Division.

Speakers also delved into the specifics of what to expect in your retirement, based on which pension tier that you will retire on.

Suffolk Retirees Local President Millie Lucas and Suffolk Retirees Local activist Rich Popkin were key to organizing the seminar, which are held across Long Island several times per year. Next time you hear that a seminar is being offered, consider attending. You will walk away with a wealth of knowledge that makes your golden years more comfortable.

Retiring soon? Join a CSEA retiree local

Considering retirement? CSEA locals may pay the first year of CSEA Retiree dues.
Our efforts through the years have protected public pensions and Social Security against assaults by shortsighted politicians who want to dismantle the system that protects your standard of living.
These days, you can’t take anything for granted. We need our union to protect what we have and likewise, we need to maintain strength in numbers. Dues can be deducted directly from your pension check.
Here is what you get:

  • Representation at the federal, state and local government levels to protect your interests;
  • Membership in a CSEA Retiree Local, as well as AFSCME Retiree Local 1000;
  • Local retiree meetings to socialize and get updates on retirement benefits;
