COMMACK — Three children of CSEA Long Island Region member were recently awarded CSEA’s statewide $1,000 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship.
On behalf of our union, Long Island Region President Nick LaMorte awarded the scholarships to the recipients at the region office.
CSEA awards 18 Flaumenbaum scholarships every year to eligible dependents of union members, three in each region. Flaumenbaum was a CSEA activist who served as Long Island Region president. The following children of Long Island Region members received the Flaumenbaum scholarship:
- Casey Butcher, whose father, William G. Butcher, is an accounts auditor at the Nassau County Department of Public Works.
- Danielle Mahn, whose mother, Lisa C. Mahn, is a teacher aide at the Levittown Public School District.
- Kristina Schwab, whose mother, Lisa Schwab, is a clerical aide at the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority.
Children of Long Island Region members also received our union’s other statewide scholarships, each of which total $2,500 and are awarded to one eligible, graduating high school senior:
- Emily Michele, whose mother, Joy Michele, is a clerk-typist at Babylon School District, received the Pearl Carroll & Associates Scholarship.
- Justin Gaskins, whose mother, Belinda Gaskins, is a social work examiner supervisor 2 at Nassau County Department of Social Services, received the MetLife Insurance Company Scholarship.
