COMMACK — Long Island Region Women’s Committee members recently held their first Relay for Life event at our Long Island Region office in Commack.

During the gathering, participants take turns walking around a designated area to symbolize the ongoing fight against cancer.

In between walks, there were fun games such as goldfish races, during which competitors blow air into a straw to push a goldfish down a path to a finish line.

Toward the end of the event, attendees wrote names on luminaries to symbolize the lives of loved ones they lost due to cancer.

The Women’s Committee’s goal was to collect $2,000 in donations. Not only did they meet their original goal, they blew it out of the water by collecting $7,000.

“Everyone worked really hard on this event,” said Women’s Committee Chair Millie Lucas. “We’re really happy with the outcome.”
