YAPHANK — The Long Island Region Veterans Committee recently held a barbecue for local veterans in need at The Veterans Place in Yaphank.
The Veterans Place is a shelter that provides housing and support services for homeless veterans.
Every year, the region veterans committee and other volunteers gather at the shelter to hold the barbecue as a way to thank the veterans for their service and sacrifices.
The group also dropped off non-perishable food items for the shelter’s pantry.
The barbecue is just one of many annual events that the committee holds in honor of Long Island veterans.
