OGDENSBURG — When kids come to ice skate or play hockey at the City of Ogdensburg’s Lockwood Civic Center, they might notice a cleaner, brighter facility, thanks to the hard work and volunteerism of some local CSEA members.

More than a dozen union members who work for the City of Ogdensburg Department of Public Works recently gave up about eight hours of their weekend to put a fresh coat of paint on the interior walls of the Civic Center’s ice arena. The workers raised money to purchase the paint and materials, and donated their time and labor to spruce up the facility.

According to City of Ogdensburg Blue Collar Unit President Joe Brenno, the union members completed the community service project as a way to “help out the city youth,” who use the facility for ice skating and hockey.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our Ogdensburg union members who really stepped up by donating their time and energy to make this facility so much nicer for the kids,” said CSEA St. Lawrence County Local President Amy Simmons.
