The Capital Region Veterans Committee recently hosted a fundraising event to aid homeless veterans. “R4 Bands 4 Vets” was organized by the committee to raise awareness and funds for area programs assisting homeless veterans. While the issue is serious, the mood at the event was festive.

Four bands, all donating their time, rocked the crowd. As the music played, attendees danced, talked and took part in a raffle for donated baskets. All proceeds, which total more than $1,500 as this edition went to press, will directly support local veterans’ programs. The goal of helping veterans is the primary mission of the committee and the issue of homeless veterans is a focus of the groups’ efforts.

“The idea of a veteran being homeless just doesn’t compute for any of us,” said John Crandell, committee chair. “Homeless veterans are two words that should never go together.” The committee plans and attends veterans events throughout the year and also hosts an annual winter clothing drive.
