BREWERTON — For the tenth year in a row, union members and their supporters were “freezin’ for a reason” as they took the icy plunge into Oneida Lake to raise big bucks for the athletes of Special Olympics!

CSEA Central Region President Colleen Wheaton and several Region officers lead the Central Region’s “Polar Peeps” plunge team into the water at the event, raising more than $10,000 for Special Olympics. Combined with the Region’s Binghamton and Massena plunges, it brings their total raised this year to more than $12,000, and the Region’s ten-year total to more than $175,000.

“I am so proud of all our plungers and their supporters, and the money we have been able to raise over the years. It’s really astounding,” Wheaton said. “It’s so gratifying to see the faces of the athletes we’ve been able to help over the years and know that we’re making a positive difference in their lives.”

CSEA team captains Casey Walpole and Tammy Witteman thanked all the team members who participated.

“Once again, our team members were amazing,” Walpole said.

“We thank all our team members and the people who supported them for participating,” Witteman added.
