STONY BROOK — Long Island Region Veterans Committee members recently spread a little joy to Long Island State Veterans Home residents through the committee’s annual ice cream social.
In addition to ice cream, the event featured entertainment. Committee Chair Maryann Phelps noted that the ice cream social is always popular with residents.
“Our committee hosts this event every February because February is traditionally the month that the veterans who reside here receive the fewest number of visitors due to weather conditions,” Phelps said.
The region Veterans Committee is active throughout the year in advocating for veterans and honoring their service to our country.
