MILLER PLACE — The current opioid crisis that is occurring across the country, including on Long Island and the rest of New York state, is having a deep impact on individuals and the people who love them.
CSEA Miller Place School District Clerical Unit members are hoping that their recent paint night fundraiser can play a part in providing much needed aid to those who seek it.
“Every year, our unit tries to come up with a different fundraising event,” said Unit President Maria Tyler. “One year, we did Pennies for Pullups, another year, we did Dress for Success. This year, we wanted to do something more interactive and get the community involved. So, we extended the event to community members in Miller Place and Mount Sinai.”
Proceeds from the paint night event will be going to Thrive, an organization based in Hauppauge that helps individuals with post recovery.
Thrive’s mission statement states: “To help individuals and families find, maintain, and strengthen their recovery through peer-based support, navigation assistance and referral services; provide interactive educational programs that promote wellness, economic prosperity and civic engagement; and maintain a safe, welcoming haven for substance-free recreational and social activities.”
In the end, the unit raised $700 for Thrive, including money earned through tickets sales for raffle prizes at the event.
