WADING RIVER — At the Suffolk Educational Employees Local’s recent annual Membership Conference, about 600 local members learned why it’s so important to stay union, stay strong.
The one-day conference’s theme, “Membership is right, together we fight! Never quit,” was emphasized throughout the event, including through programs that help us build our union.
Conference attendees learned about the U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, what’s at stake for our union and how we can unite to stay strong even in a right-to-work environment.
Other programs focused on how to respond to an active shooter, protecting ourselves on social media, anger management, how to control your sugar intake and retirement.
The conference also didn’t forget our local communities, including those in need. The Long Island Region Veterans Committee collected donations for local veterans. Local officers also collected school supplies for those in need, and held raffles that benefit the Polar Plunge, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Local 870’s
Navarro Team Scholarships that are awarded to eligible high school seniors of local members.
In addition to Long Island Region President Nick LaMorte, CSEA President Danny Donohue, Statewide Treasurer Bill Walsh and Statewide Secretary Denise Berkley attended the conference.
