Do you or your members work at a job that requires lifting patients or individuals?

Get the latest technology and information to help you ensure your employer keeps you safe on the job at the 8th Annual Safe Patient Handling Conference, which will be held Sept. 21-22 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel and Event Center, 120 Church St., Buffalo.

Many CSEA members face everyday tasks that require lifting or moving people, which has led to injuries that include sprains, pulls and tears. Zero lift, or safe patient handling, equipment and policies have been proven in numerous studies and pilot programs, including one at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia, to significantly reduce injuries.

The conference, sponsored by the NYS Zero Life Task Force (in which CSEA plays an active role), the state Department of Labor and WNYCOSH, will have a new format this year that will allow you to have an interactive learning experience. Attendees will select program tracks based on their work situation.

During the conference, attendees will be able to assess and improve safe patient handling programs at their work sites with help from program leaders and other attendees.

The tracks being offered are:

  • Acute care
  • Long term care/sub-acute rehab
  • Residential and community settings for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Outpatient treatment (e.g. medical offices, dialysis)
  • WNYCOSH modules

Each track includes lectures, workshops and hands-on equipment. Attendees will learn how to use patient assessments, equipment assessments and accident investigations to improve work site safe patient handling programs that comply with the state safe patient handling law.

Also planned during the conference is a vendor reception that will give attendees a chance to network with each other and learn more about the latest safe patient handling equipment.
