A message from CSEA President Danny Donohue
As we look forward to spring and warmer weather, we are also very busy preparing for one of our favorite events: the biennial Statewide Conference on Occupational Safety and Health in Lake Placid.
This event brings together some of the best of CSEA — hardworking activists, engaging speakers, knowledgeable vendors and our Worker’s Memorial Day ceremony.
While many of our conference features and programs will remain, there are some exciting new events that should help to make this conference our best yet!
We know you find the most value in learning skills you can apply as soon as you get back to your work site. In an effort to offer more of these opportunities, we will be hosting a poster presentation highlighting more than 30 real-life safety programs successfully implemented in work sites across the state in 2015.
Learn from your peers, ask questions, and walk away with ideas you can begin to implement as soon as you get back to work. We will also be hosting a safety fair where you can learn about some of the newest tools available out there in the field today.
We are also happy to announce that instead of our usual dinner program, we will be facilitating a conference “Dine Around.” Get together with old friends, meet new people, and enjoy the best Lake Placid has to offer by dining at one of the area’s popular eateries. We’ll do our best to update attendees as the conference approaches, to share any special deals or discounts we might be able to work out with local establishments.
Finally, our Worker’s Memorial Day presentation is sure to be a very moving experience. This year we will honor workers who have died or become seriously injured while doing their jobs, including six of our own CSEA members who lost their lives doing their jobs over the past two years. We will strengthen our resolve to ensure that safety is always our highest priority. Tragedy will unite us in solidarity, but we will work toward a future where we will no longer have to mourn lives lost on the job.
We hope that you will join us for this year’s OSH Conference. Whether you are a conference “newbie” or veteran, we’re confident that this event will be both educational and fun. Please join us!
