FARMINGVILLE — In a post U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME Council 31 world, it is more important than ever that CSEA’s officers be properly trained for their positions’ duties.

Our Presidents/Vice Presidents Training, which CSEA requires all elected presidents and vice presidents to complete, helps prepare our local and unit presidents and vice presidents for their responsibilities.

In addition to helping new and veteran presidents and vice presidents master their responsibilities, the training helps them with another important part of their office — learning to lead our union.

We must continue to stand up to anti-labor groups that want to tear us down. A major component of that preparedness is being well informed.

The training has been offered in both Nassau and Suffolk counties to give officers all over Long Island access to the training.

Even seasoned officers like Long Island Region Recording Secretary and Local 852 3rd Vice President Kelly Brown, who has been an officer for more than 20 years, see the benefit of the class.

“It’s important to take a refresher class because times change, people change and policies change; it’s good to get the updated information,” said Brown. “We’re also provided with contact numbers, which is great when you’re trying to track down information.”
