CORNING — Several hundred activists came together at our Region’s annual Fall Conference, held in Corning NY this year, excited for new ways to strengthen our union.
The weekend featured opportunities for learning, including a timely and informative workshop on how to welcome new members, conducted by CSEA Director of Member Engagement Adam Acquario, and a review of proposed changes to our union’s Constitution & ByLaws and the resolutions that will be voted on by delegates attending our upcoming Annual Delegates Meeting. We were proud to be joined by CSEA Executive Vice President Mary Sullivan and Treasurer Bill Walsh.
It also featured opportunities for team building. A tailgate event was the perfect way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon allowing union activists and leaders to mingle and discuss their solutions to union issues they share in common.
The weekend was also an opportunity to celebrate changes in our Region leadership. During the Executive Board Meeting held Sunday morning, Region President Colleen Wheaton accepted the resignation of Executive Vice President Tammy Witteman, who received a standing ovation for her service to our union. Her resignation means that Kenny Greenleaf will now serve as executive vice president, Casey Walpole will now move up as first vice president, and John Brown moves up as second vice president. President Wheaton appointed longtime union activist and SUNY Cortland Local 605 President Tom Hingher to fill the vacant position of third vice president. Wheaton was also presented with a “Happy Retirement” cake as this was her final Region Conference before she retires next month.
As usual, attendees got to view the following slideshow of pictures from Regional events held since our last conference, produced by Communications Specialist Mark Kotzin.
Our next Region Conference will be held in the Spring of 2019, with details to be announced.
