HEMPSTEAD — CSEA Village of Hempstead Unit members go above and beyond the call of duty to provide important services to the community in which they work.

Our members were front and center at the village’s recent 375th Anniversary Celebration. The event included an official street naming ceremony to change the name of the street on which village hall is located from Nichols Court to James A. Garner Way, in honor of the village’s first African American mayor.

After the ceremony, attendees made their way to Denton Green to enjoy food, games and musical performances.
Our members worked hard to make the event a great experience for all, with workers spending two days on details of the celebration.

Whether it was setting up and breaking down the stage, cooking food for attendees, cleaning up around the event site or heavy lifting, our members got the job done.

“We’re the backbone of the village,” said Village of Hempstead Unit Executive Vice President Edwin “Ebo” McDowell. “Nothing could get done without us.”
