OXFORD — CSEA and our international affiliate union AFSCME have a proud history of supporting veterans causes, so it was not a big surprise when members of our Central Region Veterans Committee and Central Region President Kenny Greenleaf recently showed up at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford with a check from our union to help further support their mission.

Greenleaf and several Region Committee members toured the facility, which is proudly staffed by CSEA Local 305 members, and presented a check in the amount of $800 to their Resident Donation Fund, which will be used to support resident activities, special events and purchases for veterans living at the home. The money was funded in part by a grant from our international union.

“We are proud to support the great mission of the Oxford Veterans Home and our members who do such important work providing a loving home for these men and women who deserve our respect and dignity in return for their past service to our country,” Greenleaf said.

CSEA Oxford Veterans Home Local President Amanda Goodrich led the union activists in touring the 242-bed facility which is currently home to 183 residents, 158 of whom are veterans.

In related news, our Region Executive Board recently approved the expenditure of $100 at the request of our Veterans Committee to donate to the Feed Our Vets Food Pantry in Utica. CSEA has supported the food pantry for veterans over the years with numerous fund raising events to support their great mission. Jefferson County Local 823 President Lynn May was recently appointed chair of our Region Veterans Committee.
