COMMACK — The CSEA Long Island Region PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality) Committee recently held its second PEOPLE meet and greet.

The PEOPLE program protects and improves our jobs, benefits and pensions in Washington, Albany and in your community. Your support and participation in PEOPLE strengthens CSEA’s clout in the workplace, in the legislature, in your community and in the labor movement.

Several unit officers and retirees attended the event with the hopes of learning more about the PEOPLE program and how they can best inform our members of its importance.

Suffolk Area Retirees Local 920 activist Carol Low listens to strategies on how to initiate a conversation about the PEOPLE program.

Meeting topics included establishing PEOPLE dues deduction through a MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) or a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), what can be done to catch members’ attention about the program during information fairs and how to identify potential PEOPLE recruiters.

Attendees also discussed how to effectively answer common questions that members have about the program.

During the program, attendees highlighted ways that PEOPLE money made a difference, including during our union’s successful efforts to defeat the 2017 state constitutional convention vote.

PEOPLE is also playing a key role in our union’s ability to stay strong and fight back against anti-union forces and their ongoing efforts to attack working people.

To learn more about the program, call CSEA Headquarters at (800) 342-4146 or email PEOPLE@cseainc.org.
