ORANGEBURG — While CSEA Rockland County Psychiatric Center Local 1st Vice President Herbert Taylor Jr. has been a PEOPLE recruiter since 2009, he said it is now more important than ever for members of our union to step up and join PEOPLE.

Taylor was our PEOPLE Recruiter of the Month for January, recruiting eight new members.

“When I speak with our new members, I explain that PEOPLE allows our voices to be heard at a higher level,” said Taylor. “If our members each donate a few dollars per pay period to PEOPLE, we can make a huge impact together. One thing we have that big corporations don’t is our strength in numbers. That’s where we get our power.”

With new workers replacing recent retirees, Taylor said educating our members must be a priority.

“Our longtime members knew that everything we get — pensions, contracts, benefits — is because of our union,” Taylor said. “I explain to our new members that if we want to protect these things, it’s important we support PEOPLE.”
