More than 100 Long Island Region members recently attended our 44th Annual Region One Workshop to build their union skills and become better activists.
The workshop began with the plenary session, “Leading the Way.” During the session, attendees learned more about the professional background of CSEA’s top leaders. They were also able to ask questions about current union activities.
Members learned valuable information at the “New Member Orientation: The Best Way to Save Our Union” workshop. During this session, attendees were taught the best way to build a relationship-based orientation, as well as the importance of having a plan and mapping out your location when going on member visits.
At the “Social Media: How Off-Duty Conduct Affects Your Job” Workshop, members were taught the many ways that some social media posts can have a potentially adverse effect on their job standing.
CSEA vendors took center stage at the “Healthcare Update,” “Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability Benefits” and the “Pearl Insurance: Let’s Play Jeopardy!” workshops.
Long Island Judiciary Local 330 activist Brian Young, Riverhead Central School District Unit and Local 870 activist Kelly Turbush, Local 330 Treasurer Angela Maynor, Local 330 President Diane Hansen and Riverhead Central School District and Local 870 activist Cindy Hynds work together to build a marshmallow project at the “Building a Plan for Our Future” session.
The “Duties and Responsibilities of Officers” workshop addressed the duties and responsibilities of union leadership posts. Rounding out the workshop was the “Building A Plan for Our Future” session. In this interactive workshop, members built a structure made out of spaghetti, string and a marshmallow. The exercise was meant to symbolize the importance of building a strong foundation for our union.
Please join us for your opportunity to team build and gain knowledge that you can use at your worksite at next year’s workshop.
