COMMACK — Three children of CSEA Long Island Region members were recently awarded CSEA’s statewide $1,000 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship.

On behalf of our union, Long Island Region President Nick LaMorte presented the awards to the recipients at the region office in Commack.

Every year, CSEA awards 18 Flaumenbaum scholarships to eligible dependents of CSEA members, three from each region.

Flaumenbaum was a CSEA activist who served as Long Island Region President. The following children of members received this year’s honor:

  • David Brown, whose parent, Marcelle Brown, is a teaching assistant at Shoreham-Wading River Central School District.
  • Thomas F. Moran, whose father, James L. Moran, is a chief stationary engineer at Nassau County.
  • Krisia Romano, whose father, Orlando Romano, is a cleaner at Farmingdale UFSD.

One child of a Long Island Region member also received CSEA’s statewide MetLife scholarship, which totals $2,500:

  • Angelo Joseph Vita, whose mother, Clara Vita, is a senior typist clerk at Syosset Central School.
